In 2018, Great Lakes Urban continued to expand the number of trained neighborhood-rooted community connectors to facilitate positive neighborhood change, coached partners in respectful and impactful community engagement, began an affordable housing initiative, and engaged youth in short-term mission opportunities to strengthen Urban neighborhoods. Accomplishments in 2018 12 holland christian students learned about "a better kind of charity" 16 calvin college students studied asset based community development 14 people attended our abcd seminar at the faith and international development conference 15 people attended abcd training days 40 stakeholders were introduced to abcd methods 30 grand valley state university and 14 hope college students served kaley square, the polis institute, and united global outreach in Florida 20 folks of various ages from 14th street christian reformed church in holland served glu and our partner, mosaic christian community development association, in benton harbor. 18 youth from rehoboth high school (mcbain, Michigan) served with new hope and calvary reformed churches in cleveland. 20 youth from rehoboth middle school (mcbain, Michigan) served bridging communities and hesed community church in detroit 1 house was remodeled in benton harbor to initiate the affordable housing ministry there
