Program areas at Drexel University College of Medicine

Education: it is the College's educational mission to provide, through a program of classroom and clinical Education that meets high academic standards, an environment conducive to the training of future physicians (e.g., medical students, interns, residents and post-doctoral fellows), research scientists and other Health professionals and for the continuing Education of those engaged in the provision of Health care services. The College of Medicine enjoys a well-deserved national reputation based on our excellent clinical teaching program, the two curricular tracks available to our students in the pre-clinical years, and our innovations in the use of technology to support and enhance the curriculum. This reputation has been fully validated by our recent review by the lcme where the College was awarded eight years full accreditation. The College was recognized for five areas of strength including technology in medical Education, comparability of clinical Education across instructional sites, commitment to and relationships with our clinical campuses, investment in Education by the dean, and career counseling. Through the newly formed graduate school of biomedical graduate and professional studies the College of Medicine continues to maintain and grow some of the strongest research graduate training programs in the region as evidenced by the quality of the applicant pool, the research productivity of matriculated students, and the success of graduates in obtaining professional positions. In addition their substantial contribution to the research enterprise of the College, these basic science programs influence significantly the clinical and translational research missions of the College and the university through joint initiatives supported by the College's strategic plan and affiliation agreements with prominent local and regional biomedical research institutes. The graduate school also continues to expand the number of graduate and post-baccalaureate programs that it offers to a growing number of applicants while maintaining its high academic standards. Biomedical research: it is the College's research mission to promote the acquisition of new knowledge through basic and clinical research and other activities for the benefit of mankind, and to provide an environment conducive to the development, assessment and application of the latest advances in biomedical science and technology.in fiscal year 2014, an international research team led by akhil b. vaidya, phd, professor in the department of microbiology & immunology and director of the center for molecular parasitology at Drexel university College of Medicine, has discovered a new class of drug compounds that could lead to potent new treatments in the battle against malaria. The results from preclinical studies were published in the november 25 edition of nature communications.
