National education and engagement - dief supports the member organizations of their coalition with research and analysis, strategic guidance, and communications tools that help inform the groups' members and the public about democracy issues through a race, class, gender, lgbtq equity lens. Dief has led the development of an overarching narrative about varied issues affecting a full and fair democracy, including the need to expand voting rights and to reduce the influence of money in politics that stifles public participation, and links those issues to the everyday concerns of the members of dief partner organizations, like protecting the environment, civil rights, economic fairness, and more. In 2018, dief and its affiliate created new social media and other collateral informed by message research that partner organizations shared with their members and the public. Dief worked with its partners to provide educational materials and press outreach around mass public awareness efforts that ...

Movement building and coalition - dief began with five founding partner groups in 2013 and is now made up of 72 partner organizations representing approximately 45 million members. These partners have endorsed principles of expanding democracy and civic participation, and dief supports coalition partners' participation in educational coalition activities and information-sharing. Dief led weekly strategy sessions for anchor groups, biweekly coalition-wide mobilizing calls (where 10-15 groups regularly participate, often more than 20), a working group of partners' communications staff, ad-hoc issue working groups on environment and workers' rights, and a weekly newsletter on opportunities for partners to engage in democracy activities across the country. Dief also holds regular board meetings for strategic guidance and coordination from the leaders of coalition groups. Dief staff provided individualized support to partner organizations interested in specific strategies for educating their memberships about democracy issues, resulting in public communications like op-eds, articles, and emails on ...

State and local educational campaigns - dief worked with its partners to educate the members of their organizations and the public on democracy issues in several states, including issues regarding reducing the influence of money in politics and expanding voting rights and access for all. Partners worked together on educational efforts throughout the country, including amplifying the work of local partners in Connecticut, Georgia, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, new mexico, new york, Washington, dc, and more, and nationwide via email and social media. The work that was done together affirmed the commitments of partner organizations to engage on democracy issues and to increase civic participation of their members issues through a race, class, gender, lgbtq equity lens.
