Program areas at Bob Hope Uso

Our programs and impact in 2018, Bob Hope Uso served a record number of service members and their families through our centers and programs. We were able to support active service members as they began their deployments through our send-off bbqs, as they were coming home from overseas deployments on lengthy layovers, and while they were relocating with their families to new assignments. Over 750 Bob Hope Uso volunteers ensured that our troops were cared for and supported as they were in trnsit, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Our troops and their brave families have enough stress in their lives, and we do all we can do to eliminate it during their travels. At Bob Hope Uso, our centers are more than just a place for troops to enjoy complimentary meals and wi-fi, or a stop where they can get some rest during long layovers, or where they are greeted upon return from overseas, our centers are an extension of the family that our troops leave behind when they go forward to protect and defend our country. Bob Hope Uso continues to be the fastest growing, most innovative Uso operation in the country, and our volunteers and small staff are making a difference, hundreds of times each day, in the lives of our troops and their brave families. Our Uso centersthe Bob Hope Uso at lax is one of only six Uso's in the world that operates 24/7 and offers our military families and travelers a center and a touch of home at the one of the world's busiest airports. The Bob Hope Uso at lax provides an airport lounge and home-away-from-home for members of the military, their immediate families and military retirees and their spouses. The facility provides a nap room, movie lounge, snacks, food and beverages. Also offered are wifi access and video games. Our helpful volunteers provide connections to the traveling service members and their families and are there to offer assistance to make their journeys easier. It is our largest location by number of troops served. In 2018, Bob Hope Uso at lax transitioned from an existing 4,000-square-foot center in temporary trailers to a state-of-the-art airport center inside the iconic lax theme building. The new 7,000-square-foot center opened on july 27, 2018 and features modern furnishings and amenities that provide a safe haven for our guests. All services at the Bob Hope Uso at lax are provided to our valiant american warriors and their families without charge thanks to 100% funding from private sources. Bob Hope Uso at lax served 103,071 troops and military family members in 2018. Our lax Uso and its staff and volunteers provide additional support far beyond the four walls of the Uso centers in the on-base and community programming. This includes service to military installations such as naval base ventura county, Los Angeles afb, and coast guard station la to support family days, deployments, homecomings and holidays.in 2018 Bob Hope Uso at ontario served 32,312 troops and family members with the support of 173 local volunteers. Our community outreach programs support remote bases like ft. irwin, marine corps logistics base, barstow and all current service members and their families living in the Area. Bob Hope Uso at ontario center supports itx, where volunteers will be serving over 2,000 service members that are transitioning to and from military trainings from the end of may to the beginning of july. On any given day, Bob Hope Uso at ontario will host up to 900 service members. Each is fed a hearty meal before they depart for extensive training. Bob Hope Uso at palm springs served over 34,736 troops and families with the support of over 126 volunteers in 2018. Most visitors to the center are active-duty marines serving at the marine corps air ground combat center (mcagcc) near twenty-nine palms. The mcagcc is located about 60 miles northeast of palms springs. Bob Hope Uso at palm springs provides a much-needed sanctuary for service members traveling to and from the base to destinations both nationally and around the world. Home to a communications school that provides vital training that our troops need when deployed around the world, twenty-nine palms is a critical link in our national defense. Our volunteers work every day to ensure our troops have the support they need and provide a touch of home while in transit. Our activities include an annual super bowl party, provided by supplying a satellite dish and giant blow-up screen, with snacks and beverages to the remote camp wilson so that over 1,000 marines can enjoy the game, where otherwise they would remain disconnected. In. 2018, Bob Hope Uso at orange county served nearly 15,911 service members at the Uso center at john wayne airport and throughout the commuity on and off base to an Area that is home to a large number of national guard and reservists. Since its opening in 2014, traffic at the center has grown 40%, and our services have been increasingly requested by the military community. There are 95 local volunteers in orange county who help to meet the needs of the service members. The Bob Hope Uso annual oc military family carnival served over 500 service members and their families creating fun-filled bonding experiences through the free carnival games and prizes, food and beverages, and special interactive craft activities, such as building bird houses, that enable active service members to
Section 4b continued: bond and create special memories with their children during the "month of the military family". Our orange county center serves the rapidly expanding military population at joint forces training base Los alamitos, naval weapons station seal beach, south county camp pendleton families and reservists in the county. Bob Hope Uso at military entrance processing station opened in november 2017. It is the busiest in the nation, swearing-in 40,000 young americans who go forth to protect and defend the constitution. We are proud to serve thousands of enlisting men and women annually through our Bob Hope Uso at meps center, where our volunteers provide a stress-free lounge Area for the enlisting men and women to enjoy an assortment of games, snacks, beverages, and entertainment. We believe it is critical for enlisting service members to develop a relationship with the Uso upon entry to the military, so that they may carry out their very important mission knowing the gratitude of the american people through the Uso, as well being well informed of the resources and services available to them throughout their service. Meps la is the single largest volume facility in the nation, where nearly 1 in 20 of all military members start their service.in 2018 Bob Hope Uso opened its newest center at the joint regional deployment center at march air reserve base serving tens of thousands of the troops who are deploying and re-deploying this year. Together with dozens of volunteers, we serve snacks, refreshments and other treats to the military members waiting several hours at the terminal for their flight out. Bob hopes first Uso show took place at march arb back in 1941 so it is only fitting that we are able to have a presence on base to support the men and women deploying to keep our country safe. In 2018 Bob Hope Uso at march arb deployment center directly impacted 37,698 deploying troops.military family programs in 2018 we provided special family support programming for military families throughout the year such as at the jack o'lantern jubilee where hundreds of pumpkins were distributed to military families; at the Bob Hope Uso military family carnival service members and their families bonded in playing carnival games, enjoyed the petting zoo and performances by the show troupe; and a variety of family days and holiday events where free meals, toys and activities were provided to service members and their families. Entertainment programs providing entertainment for our military service members and their families has always been a vital element of Uso services.
