Lifeshare's services included recruitment, collection, testing, processing and distribution of whole blood and components for hospitals. Lifeshare is a member of america's blood centers, the national organization of independent blood centers, is accredited by the american association of blood banks and licensed by the fda. The organization provides patient programs such as autologous donations (donations for an individual's own surgery), directed donations (donations for family members own surgery), therapuetic phlebotomy (individuals whose iron is too high) and other similar services. 6,119 units of pheresis platelets were collected. These units are transfused into individuals battling cancer or leukemia. Platelets help patient's blood clot and prevent fatal hemorrhaging.
