Grant Programs - The Arts & Cultural Council obtained funding from Rochester Area Community Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts to offer competitive grant programs to organizations and individuals for arts-related projects: Capacity Building Grants - A funding program for not-for-profit cultural organizations that supports projects enhancing operations, infrastructure and long-term capacity. There were 32 requests totaling $105,165 - a five-year record high for number of requests - received from organizations in seven counties for projects to take place in 2016. Out of these, 12 grants were awarded subsequent to year end, totaling $25,000.(Continued on Schedule O)Decentralization Grants - A funding program for not-for-profit organizations and fiscally sponsored individual artists that provides a broad range of community arts programs open to the public. In 2015 the council distributed $61,600 for 17 grants awarded in 2014. The Decentralization Grant program moved to a neighboring arts council for awarding in 2016.In addition, this program is funded by $109,000 of the government contributions.
Website - The Arts & Cultural Council maintains ArtsRochester.org as the arts and culture portal for the Greater Rochester region. Our site includes directories of subscriber artists and arts organizations, as well as our Regional Events Calendar, to raise arts awareness, build audiences, and promote artists and arts organizations. ArtsRochester.org receives approximately 1.5 million hits a year.
The Strategy - is a roadmap for the cultural sector to leverage its strengths and increase its already sizeable impact on our region, while focusing on sustaining and growing our region's cultural industry. Three key objectives are: I. Articulate the Value of Arts and Culture; II. Provides access to sources of support for various Arts and Cultural organizations and individuals; and III. Build and Leverage Collaborative Relationships and Structures. These continued to drive our short- and long-term planning.Other Programs - The Arts & Cultural Council managed programs that provided access to pro bono legal assistance for eligible subscribers, free or low-cost professional development training and seminars, and recognition of achievement in arts, culture, education, and philanthropy through the Community Arts Awards. We also provided coordination for our subscribers to exhibit their work at a local organization where they held opening receptions and artist talks.
