Program areas at News Leaders Association
Nla had to cancel its annual convention in 2022 due to insufficient sign ups to participate at a time that the News industry is experiencing strong financial headwinds. Nla returned the conference fee paid to those who planned to attend and was able to cancel most food/beverage and conference contracts, though there were some cancellation fees (mtsu site conference rooms) and other losses in deposits (the food & drink deposit for the planned reception at the Tennessean).
Webinars: nla holds live webinars to foster conversations between editors and members of the journalism profession designed to help editors navigate corporate mandates, stay focused on good journalism and best practices leadership methods in a time of diminishing resources.
Membership: nla's members are individuals, and its board is elected by members. Many of nla's initiatives are carried out by its committees. It also operates projects coordinated by staff with advice from committees and the board. The News Leaders Association advances the cause of quality, independent professional journalism. Founded in 1922 to defend the profession from unjust assault, nla is primarily an organization of newsroom Leaders in the united states, with members from canada and mexico, central and south america welcome as well.
