The staff support the publication of the American organist magazine both in print and online; publication of a monthly e-newsletter sent to all members; publication of a monthly newsletter sent to chapter leaders; strategic planning; a five-tier certification program; three separate scholarship programs; three performance competitions; three composition competitions; a student commissioning project; the most widely used online job board for Organists; a website with hundreds of pages of content; webinars; a comprehensive listing of institutions of higher learning that confer degrees in organ studies and organ performance; a diversified fundraising program; the work of 28 committees; management of a $3,054 million budget; and a broad array of other membership services for approximately 12,000 members and 700 magazine subscribers.
See schedule o.the ago administers a robust program of competitions and conventions that recognize outstanding achievements by performers and composers. Competitions include: the national young artists competition in organ performance; the national competition in organ improvisation; the regional competitions for young Organists; the ago/marilyn mason competition in organ composition; the ago/ecs publishing award in choral composition; ronald g. pogorzelski and lester d. yankee annual competition; and the ago student commissioning project. In the summer of 2022, the ago held its first biennial national convention since 2018. The convention was held in seattle and featured the final rounds and winners of many of the aforementioned competitions.
Published twelve monthly issues of the American organist, the world's most widely read professional journal serving the organ and choral fields. Tao provides educational articles, news, product reviews, interviews, opinion columns, and announcements of interest to approximately 12,000 voting members and 700 subscribers. The journal is available in print and online, and is distributed worldwide.
Educational programs include: january jubilees, february jump starts, five-tier certification program and related materials, pipe organ encounters and scholarships, and career development and support.
