Program areas at ACLU Foundation of Texas

Immigrants' Rights - The ACLU Foundation of Texas is committed to reversing the assault on immigrants and border communities, fighting to protect immigrants' rights across the state. We use innovative digital tools to help audiences understand the personal and community impact of detention practices and engage the community in direct action and through public education and litigation. We continue to fight for the rights of immigrants and asylum-seeking people and demand accountability for abuses and inhumane conditions.
SMART Justice Reform - The ACLU Foundation of Texas is building support to drive reform of the criminal legal system. Texas is ground-zero for pretrial incarceration reform, and we continue to work for reforms that reduce the number of people held pretrial and address other factors that drive high incarceration rates. We are advancing long overdue reforms through litigation, organizing, and public education across a rapidly changing criminal legal reform landscape.
Voting Rights - The ACLU Foundation of Texas sees voting as the cornerstone of our democracy, the fundamental right upon which all our civil liberties rest, and fights to protect it in a rapidly changing state becoming more diverse - politically and otherwise - than at any other point in living memory. Voter suppression and partisan gerrymandering disproportionately disenfranchise Black, Indigenous, and other voters of color - especially in the absence of oversight protections of the Voting Rights Act. We challenge attempts to disenfranchise voters and stop new voting restrictions that add barriers and restrict access. Through litigation and public education, the ACLU of Texas is fighting back.
Reproductive Freedom - The ACLU Foundation of Texas is working with coalitions statewide and at the local level to stop an emboldened anti-choice movement, galvanized by the changing nature of the Supreme Court with the potential for overturning Roe v. Wade. Through impact litigation, and by organizing and training the next generation of abortion rights advocates, we work to stop attacks on abortion access.
LGBTQIA+ Equality - The ACLU Foundation of Texas is committed to securing protections for LGBTQIA+ vulnerable groups - especially transgender Texans; Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) in the LGBTQIA+ community; and youth - in Texas schools, courts, and communities. We have expanded our advocacy and impact litigation on behalf of transgender and gender non-conforming children in schools, which have become critical battlegrounds for providing a safe and affirming environment for young people.
