Program areas at Racquet Up Detroit
The organization operates a youth development program for Detroit public school students after school, on weekends, and during the summer. This program aims to promote Detroit public school students' physical fitness, reading and writing abilities, self-esteem, strength of character, and educational attainment. Overall, there are seven main program components, including squash instruction and competition, fitness development, academic tutoring, literacy development, community service, summer opportunities, and mentoring. See schedule o for key accomplishments under this program.key accomplishments for this program include the following:- 100 percent of first five cohorts of students graduated from high school- 100 percent of first five cohorts of students admitted to college- school attendance rate for Racquet Up Detroit participants beats the average for Detroit students- 20 students have earned full scholarships to prestigious and challenging academic summer programs at phillips exeter academy, hotchkiss, lawrenceville, choate, and taft schools- over $200,000 in summer scholarships earned, placing students at camps and programs across the united states, including stanford university, kenyon college, Michigan state university, wayne state university, university of Virginia, deerfield academy, ymca camp hayo-went-ha, and ohiyesa- urban squash team national champions in 2018- eight graduates have played collegiate squash at denison, hobart, chatham, and st. lawrence university- construction of new dedicated facility, completed on time and under budget
