Program areas at Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition

Friends like me- Breast Cancer support and outreach program including care packages for newly diagnosed women, educational publications, informative website and outreach and community awareness events. Measurable achievements: in the current year, over 1,481 care packages were sent to newly diagnosed women, 58,045 copies of the print newsletter frontline were mailed, over 1,150,000 pink link e-newsletters were e-mailed to constituents, over 234 grassroots partner outreach events were held and over 173,785 people visited www.pabreastcancer.org. This program is funded through in-kind and cash donations.
Income tax check-off for Breast Cancer research - promotion and administration of the state income tax check off for Breast and cervical Cancer research. Effective july 1, 2008 the pbcc became the administrator of the tax check off funding and is now responsible for all aspects of the program. Measurable achievements: in the current year over $400,000 was raised for Breast Cancer research; 6 grant applications were received from pa based researchers in response to the pbcc's current year request for applications; and 4 grants were issued to researchers. This program is funded through in-kind and cash donations.
Pa Breast Cancer Coalition annual conference - educational conference offering workshops, discussion panels and expert speakers covering various Breast Cancer topics and issues. The conference offered attendees the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research and developments in Breast Cancer detection, care and treatment. Participants were able to attend a wide variety of workshops to learn about topics in the areas of diagnosis and treatment, health and wellness and survivorship. Measurable achievements: over 1,318 people participated in the conference and continuing education credits were awarded to nurses, social workers, and radiologic technologists. This program is funded through in-kind and cash donations.
67 women- 67 counties: facing Breast Cancer in pa- traveling photo exhibit hosted by local communities that celebrates the life, courage, hope, and dignity of women and families who have battled Breast Cancer. Measurable achievements. In the current year the exhibit was displayed 4 times. However the pbcc used this opportunity to create an interactive online version of the exhibit. This program is funded through in-kind and cash donations.
Patient advocacy/treatment program - the pbcc has an on-staff patient advocate to help women with Breast Cancer screening and treatment related issues. The pbcc also conducts on-line training courses and webinars open to anyone and free of charge. Nurses and social workers have been approved for continuing education credits with the training courses. Measurable achievements: the pbcc's patient advocate spent over 1,666 hours directly assisting women and over 188 people took advantage of on-line training and webinars. This program is funded through in-kind and cash donations.
