Program areas at Neighborhood House

Early childhood programs: ensuring that all young children, especially those from low-income families, are prepared for a successful transition to kindergarten by promoting healthy child development and early learning from birth through age 6. Programs include head start, early head start, and preschool promise. Early childhood highlights:- the program served 142 students with high-quality early leaning programming and family supports.- students came from families speaking 17 different homes languages.- the program served over 28,000 nutritious, from-scratch meals to our students; a new gardening program was launched to teach students how to choose healthy foods.
Parenting programs: providing parenting education and strong community to parents from a wide array of backgrounds. Parenting highlights:- Neighborhood House launched the multnomah parenting education hub (mpeh), a parent-led initiative which serves parents across multnomah county through training, community building, and other resources and support. - staff trained parent educators from the african immigrant and slavic communities and delivered fidelity-based parent education classes in somali, swahili and russian. - the program partnered with a number of organizations in multnomah county to deepen our service delivery.
Anti-poverty family support services: operating the largest food pantry on portland's west side and providing housing and supportive services for houseless people. Anti-poverty family support highlights:- 28 houseless families found shelter and support through our housing program.- the food pantry distributed 767,911 pounds of nutritious food to 9,201 individuals. - an average of 2,000 people received food assistance each month.
Aging services and youth/family services program. More than 2,500 seniors participated in in-person and hybrid health and wellness classes. 200 elementary students 5-12 benefitted from our high-quality education and child care programs, promoting school readiness and success, and affordable child care for working families.
