Program areas at Jackson-Vinton Community Action
The Community services program provides local communities with needed social support by maintaining service centers and acquiring emergency and disaster fund for individual families.
The emergency home energy assistance program (heap) is designed to assist low-income families who are facing an emergency situation and have a ten day supply of fuel or less, or a heating utility shut-off notice. This program is operated in conjunction with the state heap program. The summer cooling program provides assistance to eligible families to offset high electricity costs associated with the summer cooling season.
Head start is the foremost child development program in the united states. It provides educational experiences, health services, parent involvement and social services to give a 'head start' to economically disadvantaged and/or disabled 3-5 year olds and their families. All head start services provided by Jackson-Vinton Community Action, Inc. are offered free of charge to all enrolled children. Income eligibility is determined by the income guidelines of the department of health and human services.
Other program services include, but are not limited to: emergency healthcare assistance program, housing trust fund emergency home repair, housing counseling services and jvcai women, infants & children.
The transportation program is utilized by both jackson and vinton county residents. These residents are transported to medical clinics, mental health clinics, work sites or the social security administration office to access needed services. Jackson-Vinton Community Action, inc.is also a vinton county area transit services (vcats) provider. This allows vinton county residents to be transported to various locations for a nominal fee.
