Program areas at CHP

Christus Health Plan is organized and shall be operated exclusively for the charitable, scientific, educational and religious purposes of advancing, promoting and supporting the Health care ministries of the sponsoring congregations, the congregation of sisters of charity of the incarnate word, houston, Texas and the congregation of sisters of charity of the incarnate word (san antonio), which operate and are controlled in conformity with the ethical and moral teachings of the roman catholic church, and promoting efficient governance and management, cooperative planning and the sharing of resources among such Health care ministries. Christus Health Plan arranges and provides Health care services to the Health and human services commission ("hhsc") including, but not limited to the performance of nueces county hhsc medicaid and chip managed care activities and the performance of future managed care activities outside the nueces county service area, as approved by the board of directors of the corporation. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the corporation's mission shall be to extend the healing ministry of jesus christ, and consistent therewith, shall operate according to the doctrines, resolutions, decrees and ethical principles of the sponsoring congregations and the ethical and religious directives for catholic Health services as promulgated and amended from time to time by the united states catholic conference of bishops. It is also a purpose of the corporation to aid, lend financial support and assistance to, and to invest and/or dispose of funds of the corporation and the system participants for the use and benefit of, and in furtherance of the purposes of Christus, the system, the corporation, the system participants and the local entities. The corporation's purposes shall also include the making of gifts, grants and contributions to other qualifying tax-exempt organizations, particularly those designed to support and benefit the Health and welfare of the poor and underserved. The corporation shall also be authorized to engage in such pursuits as may be necessary or incidental, or which may aid or assist, in carrying out the corporation's mission and purposes. The corporation is organized and shall be operated exclusively for the benefit of the purposes as well as those system entities that are described in section 501(c)(3), and section 509(a)(1) or section 509 (a)(2) of the internal revenue code of 1986, as amended, or corresponding provisions of any subsequent federal tax law (hereinafter the "code").
