The Child Neurology Society (cns) is a professional organization dedicated to promoting the optimal care and welfare of children with neurological and developmental disorders. Founded in 1972, the cns has over 3,000 members, including Child neurologists and other professionals who care for children with neurological and developmental disorders.the cns's mission is to advance the field of Child Neurology through education, advocacy, and support for professionals who care for children with neurological disorders. Cns provides a platform for collaboration, scientific research, and professional development among its members and promotes public understanding and awareness of neurological and developmental disorders.the cns offers a range of resources and programs to its members, including an annual meeting, self-assessment exams, case studies, webinars, job listings, research grants, and other career development opportunities. The cns also advocates for policies and programs that support the needs of children with neurological and developmental disorders and their families and provides resources and support to help its members navigate the complex healthcare landscape.overall, the Child Neurology Society plays an important role in advancing the field of Child Neurology and improving the lives of children with neurological and developmental disorders and their families.in late 2022, the cns welcomed its 3rd executive director/ceo, monique terrell, upon the retirement of long-standing ed roger larson.organization structure and governance:cns operates under the guidance of a dedicated board of directors composed of esteemed Child neurologists elected by active members. The board oversees the organization's strategic direction, financial stewardship, and programmatic activities. Our diverse committees, consisting of members with specialized expertise and interest, work diligently to execute various initiatives, ensuring that cns remains at the forefront of advancements in Child neurology.medical education and training: cns is committed to enhancing the knowledge and skills of physicians specializing in Child Neurology. We organize an annual conference that stands as a cornerstone event in the Child Neurology community. By facilitating collaboration, disseminating knowledge, and fostering connections. The 51st annual meeting themed "where the next 50 years begins," this year's program honored the past while looking ahead toward the future was held in cincinnati, oh, and hosted over 1000 attendees in october 2022. The cns scientific program is designed by and is primarily intended for Child neurologists and professionals in other fields of study related to neurologic and developmental disorders in children and adolescents. "as a result of attending this meeting, the physician will be better able to care for children with neurological disease through an understanding of recent advances in neuroscience, neuro-diagnostics, and therapeutics relevant to Child Neurology. "we said goodbye to retiring executive director roger larson and welcomed our new executive director and ceo, monique terrell. We honored mr. larson, dr. jeffrey buchhalter, and dr. michael j. noetzel with lifetime achievement awards and shined a well-deserved, bright light on dr. bhooma aravamuthan, recipient of the 2022 philip r. dodge young investigator award. In between more distinguished award presentations and an outstanding lineup of seminars and sessions, cns honored the early passing of dr. taeun chang, renaming the outstanding junior member award and outstanding junior member post graduate award in her honor.we look forward to hosting the cns 52nd annual meeting in vancouver, bc, in october 2023.grants and awards:cns offers a range of grants and awards to support excellence in Child Neurology research, education, and clinical practice. These opportunities include:the hower award is given annually to honor a Child neurologist and member of the cns who is highly regarded as an outstanding teacher and scholar.the bernard sachs award is given annually to honor someone of international status who has done leading research in neuroscience with relevance to the care of children with neurological disorders.the roger & mary brumback lifetime achievement awards are presented to cns members in recognition of a life-long commitment to Child Neurology, patient care, and humanism in medicine.the martha bridge denckla award honors a physician-scientist (e.g., Child neurologist, neurodevelopmental disabilities physician, or related pediatric sub-specialist) of national and/or international status.the philip r. dodge young investigator award is a prestigious award for basic science or clinical research by accomplished early-stage investigators who are members of the Child Neurology society.the bernard d'souza international fellowship award is awarded annually to a Child neurologist who trained in and currently practices Child Neurology in an academic environment in a developing country.these and other initiatives underline cns's commitment to advancing knowledge and care in Child Neurology by recognizing achievements, encouraging research, and fostering professional growth.publications:cns officially launched its new clinical journal, annals of the Child Neurology Society (acns). A peer-reviewed journal that promotes rapid dissemination of information related broadly to clinical pediatric neuroscience, including clinical Child Neurology, developmental neurobiology, diagnostic testing, genetics, and other articles of interest to the pediatric neuroscience community. The journal publishes high-quality clinical research, patient-related articles, clinical trials, scholarly reviews, and commentaries. As an official publication of the Child Neurology Society, acns also publishes articles arising from the Society's sponsored symposia, practice guidelines, and invited lecture series, such as the bernard sachs lecture, the philip r. dodge young investigator award, and hower lecture.the annal of Neurology continues as an official flagship journal of the cns. The annals publishes original articles with the potential for high impact in understanding the pathogenesis, clinical and laboratory features, diagnosis, treatment, outcomes, and science underlying human nervous system diseases.cns connections is the official news magazine of the Child Neurology Society. The title embodies the members' passionate professional interest in building and sustaining connections with their peers, colleagues, mentors, mentees, and friends in the field, who share their career, calling, and community. Published 3-4 times a year, the magazine features articles highlighting young researchers, q&a sessions with prominent thought leaders, letters from the president and executive director, and a comprehensive listing of available positions in Child neurology.financial overview:cns relies on the generosity of individual donors, corporate partnerships, grants, event registration, and membership dues to fund its programs and activities.
