The Center for Organ Recovery & Education (core) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting donation, Education and research for the purpose of saving and enhancing lives through Organ, tissue and cornea transplantation. Core operates under the umbrella of eight values: integrity, compassion, quality, responsiveness, Education, innovation, respect and life.core had many noteworthy accomplishments in 2022, including the following:achieved fourth consecutive year of record performance: for the fourth year in a row, core achieved record-breaking performance for saving and healing lives through Organ, tissue and cornea donation across western Pennsylvania, west Virginia and chemung county, new york. The generosity of 334 Organ donors and their families served as the foundation for core's 23% increase in Organ transplants, amounting to 858 life-saving transplants total. The region also saw 1,073 corneas transplanted as a direct result of the selflessness of cornea donors, and 1,297 tissue donors transformed the lives of others.supported passing of wv house bill 4340: core worked with state lawmakers to push forward west Virginia house bill 4340, culminating in the bill being signed into law by gov. Jim justice in april 2022. The bill made changes to the state's uniform anatomical gift act (uaga) that will help core continue to save and heal more lives through donation. Specifically, the legislation streamlines processes between core and the state medical examiner's office, provides clarity in the legal next-of-kin decision-making authority when an action for divorce is pending and allows for blood draws and minimally invasive testing on potential donors to test for suitability. Established diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility statement: in 2022, core finalized and implemented a diversity, equity, inclusion & accessibility (deia) statement that articulates its unfaltering commitment to keeping deia at the Center of its mission. A mission to save and heal lives through donation-every life. The statement's purpose is to affirm the organization's dedication to deia matters within the values of core, aiding in core's ability to connect deia to its policies and practices. Core believes the newly released deia statement will help convey the organization's passion and promise for fostering an environment where every person can feel a deep sense of belonging.
