Asah keeps its membership of new jersey state-approved specialized schools informed on the regulations and laws impacting the operations of their schools. Asah maintains a code of ethics and standards for specialized schools providing Education to students with Special needs. Additionally, Asah produces publications; provides information, referrals, and advocacy; offers a free speakers bureau for parent groups. Asah also conducts an annual outcomes analysis and other studies to ensure quality of services.
Asah annually organizes the largest Special Education conference in new jersey. In addition to the annual conference, Asah organizes professional development seminars for the staff of the more than 125 schools it serves. These seminars include topics of interest to the teachers, paraprofessionals, board certified behavioral analysts (bcbas), school nurses, business managers, human resources personnel, public relations staff, principals, and executive directors that work for these schools. Additionally, Asah organizes professional roundtables for many of these professionals that meet multiple times of year to share best practices and information related to new local, state, and federal requirements impacting their work.
Asah annually awards the connections for success scholarships. the goal of the connections for success scholarship is to provide financial support and recognition of students with disabilities graduating from an Asah member school as they pursue post-secondary training, Education, or other opportunities. the scholarship criteria encourage continuing Education and training, increased independence and goal setting, and promote Community integration and the use of local resources and supports. the awarding of these scholarship provides direct financial support to youth with disabilities so that they may pursue post-secondary Education, training,or other career or life-enhancing opportunities; encourages students and their families to identify local, community-based supports to help foster the success of the student beyond graduation; assist students with disabilities leaving Asah schools to be able to pursue opportunities in the least restrictive setting; and encourages goal setting and planning for the future.
