Program areas at Abraham In Motion

In 2022 A.I.M by Kyle Abraham returned to its robust touring schedule, fulfilling the remainder of the companys rescheduled touring contracts. During 56 total performances the company reached 41,495 audience members in twelve states and five countries. An Untitled Lovea creative exaltation set to the music of R&B legend DAngelo that pays homage to the complexities of self love and Black lovewas performed 37 times, while Requiem: Fire in the Air of the Eartha reimagining of Mozarts Requiem in D minor through abstracted themes of afterlife, reincarnation, mythology and folklorewas performed thirteen times. The remaining six performances were mixed repertory programs, allowing the company to demonstrate the breadth of its work to audiences in between presentations of the companys two latest evening length works. Administratively, the company succeeded in completing the majority of its two-year Strategic Plan, first adopted in Spring 2021. In addition to new staff members hired in 2021, the company welcomed a full-time Marketing Manager, and created a new role of Artistic Engagement Manager that was taken on by the companys former Rehearsal Director. The company also hired several new dancers, ending 2022 with ten full-time dancers and one part-time swing dancer. A.I.M also onboarded three new Board members in 2022, bringing much needed professional expertise and philanthropic capacity to the organizations Board of Directors. Finally, in 2022 A.I.M commissioned new work by outside choreographers, a practice the company began in 2018. Beginning with the creation of Maleek Washingtons Uproot: love and legacy in late 2022, the company looks forward to the continuation of this ongoing program in 2023 and beyond.
